Ontario Chess Challenge qualifier 1 – GP1

2019 Seneca Hill OCC Qualifier

OCC1 online registration is now closed. We may have very limited spots onsite. The onsite registration fee is $55.

These two OCC qualifiers are Seneca Hill Grand Prix events. Grand Prix details here.

Who: Student K to G.12 and open. Sections may be combined if less than 12 players.

Options of section: (A) the student’s school grade or (B) Elite.

Elite section is for (likely) pre-qualified players (announced by CMA in January) who want the challenge and who want to win OCC FREE ENTRY. There is 1 bonus point for GP computation. Maximum score of the tournament is 5.

Triple Chess Threat

As parents, it’s always satisfying to enroll our children in healthy competitive programs and Seneca Hill Chess has exceeded our expectations.  It has been a blessing not only for our three children, Micah, Nathan, and Janelle to learn logical and creative thinking and help them excel at their primary school clubs but also for us as parents to see them adopt a hobby that they can play together.  This program is so well run and the top-notch teachers know how to harmonize play with learning.  For all three of them to coincidentally win in their age-specific Swiss Round tournament was a real bonus and will go down as one of our special memories. ~Jason

GM Aman Hambleton came to Seneca Hill in 2012. Since then, he returned every time he was awarded a new FIDE title. We are so glad that he has become a grandmaster!

OCC winners

Congrats to all the participants and winners who participated in this prestigious Ontario Chess Challenge.

NM Joey Zhong won again in his last year (Grade 12) He will join the other 11 Ontario winners to play in the National Canadian Chess Challenge in St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador on May 19-21.

Joey was our students from G.2 to G.6 and is now one of our teachers.

There are many more Seneca Hill Chess players came top three and top ten. Please visit our Facebook page for some of them, who we managed to take a photo.

GM Aman Hambleton is coming to Seneca Hill Chess again!

GM Aman Hambleton is representing Canada at Chess Olympiad again!

The first thing I pulled out the old flyer, I had to change a letter proudly:
FM >> IM >> GM!

Back in 2012, the then FM (Fide Master) Aman Hambleton was representing Canada at the World Junior Chess Championship in Athens, Greece. We hosted the first fundraising simul for him at Oriole, one of the Seneca Hill location at that time. (Simul is a player playing multiple boards at the same time.) Read the rest of this entry »
