Every year, the top girls from Grade 1 to 6 are invited to represent Ontario Girls Team to play in the Ontario-Quebec Team Championship in Kingston. Entry fee, transportation and lunch are paid by Chess’n Math Association. It will be held on June 9, 2018.

Top girls 2018 will be selected from the OCC Seneca Hill Qualifier 2 on March 17, 2018.

Girls playing in their own grade section or open section are eligible.

The higher scored girl in each section from section Grade 1 to Grade 6 will be qualified to the play-off match.

The higher scored girl of each grade from Grade 1 to Grade 6 in the open section will be qualified to the play-off match.

Play-off match will be played after the tournament if time permitted, otherwise, at a mutual agreed Saturday or Sunday afternoon.

2018 Seneca Hill OCC Qualifiers 2

Who: Student K to G.12 and open. Sections may be combined if less than 12 players.

Option of sections: (A) the student’s school grade or (B) open.

Open section is for pre-qualified players (announced by CMA at the end of January) who want the challenge and who want to win OCC FREE ENTRY.

Grade 1 to Grade 6 girls: This is also a qualifier for the girls to the Ontario-Quebec Team Championship in Kingston on June 9, 2018. Details here.

When: Saturday, March 17, 2018

Where: St. Timothy Catholic School, 25 Rochelle Crescent, North York, ON M2J 1Y3 Map

Entry Fee: $30 (Seneca Hill Chess students $20 paid by February 24, see notice)

Schedule: 1st round 12:00, 2nd round 1:00, 3rd – 2:00, 4th – 3:00 and 5th – 4:00 or earlier.
Players MUST check in and pay $30 entry fee to complete the registration between 10:45 and 11:30.

Format: 5 round Swiss pairings. Time controls: 25 minutes per player.

Prizes: Trophy for 1st, medal for 2nd and 3rd in each or combined section.

Tie-breakers for trophies and medals.
(1) Head to head and (2) Performance of Opposition

All players qualified through Seneca Hill will be automatically entered into a draw for FREE OCC Entries ($65-$80 value each). There is at least one Free OCC Entry guaranteed in the open section. 1 out of 30 will win a Free OCC Entry in all other sections. The winners have to participate in OCC 2018 in order to claim the prize.

Qualifier: 1 out of 10 players per section will be qualified to OCC 2018 (Sunday, April 22).

Congrats to Joey Zhong (a national master) who came first in the Ontario Chess Challenge, Grade 9. He is going to play in the national tournament, Canadian Chess Challenge in Quebec City on May 17 and 18. Joey was a Seneca Hill Chess students and now a Seneca Hill Chess Club regular supply teacher. We wish Joey all the best in the CCC!

Ontario Chess Challenge – North York Regional Qualifiers 2013 (Formerly called Seneca Hill Regional)

Open to any K to G.12 students in Ontario

  • March 3 – grades 6 to 12
  • March 10 – grades 4 to 5
  • March 17 – grades 1 to 3
Sections are divided by grades. Sections may be combined, but prizes are given per grade.
Place: Oriole Community Centre, Map
Ratings: Games are rated by the Chess’N Math Association.
Entry fee: $15. (or one Sunday tournament ticket for Oriole players.)
Prizes: Medals for the top 1 to 3 player(s) in each grade (1 medal out of 4 players), ribbons for all participants.
Top player of each  grade will get partial sponsorship to the Ontario Chess Challenge 2013. (Amount determined by the number of participants in the grade. Details will be posted)
Players qualified by rating or other qualifiers can still play in this tournament. These players will not occupy any qualified spots, but are eligible to win the sponsorship.
Registration: Pre-registration only. Spaces are limited, first come first served.

Schedule: Players must check in and pay the entry fee between 12:45 and 1:00 on the tournament day.
Tournament starts at 1:15. Time control: 25 minutes per player.
Rounds: 5, Next rounds start 5 minutes after the end of the previous round.
