NYYCC and Grand Prix 2017

We are running a series of 5 Grand Prix tournaments this year.

2017 Canadian Youth Chess Championship– Qualifiers

There are 5 tournaments. Each single tournament is a CYCC qualifier. Players achieving a score of 2.5 or better in any one tournament will qualify to participate in the CYCC 2017 (subject to approval of the junior coordinator). The top players  will be on Team Canada as the Canadian representatives to the 2017 World Youth/Cadets Chess Championships.

Sections: Under 8, U10, U12, U14, U16, U18 Open and Girls
Sections with fewer than 12 players may be combined at the TD’s discretion.
Play up is allowed. Girls can choose to play in open or girl section if any.
Age: as of January 1, 2017

Location: Our Lady of Guadalupe CS, 3105 Don Mills Road, Toronto, M2J 3C2.

Players can participate in any 1 or multiple tournaments.

Format and schedule:
5 round Swiss pairings. Time controls: 25 minutes per player.
Saturday 1:00, 2:00, 3:00, 4:00 and 5:00 or earlier
Games are CFC Active rated.

1st Trophy After tie-breaks
2nd Trophy After tie-breaks
3rd Trophy After tie-breaks
Players score 2.5 or 3 $5 bursaries for next tournament 1st, 2nd 3rd, and 4th tournaments only
Players score 3.5 or more $10 bursaries for next tournament 1st, 2nd 3rd, and 4th tournaments only

*All prizes and bursaries are given per combined section/sections 

Tie-breakers:
(1) Head to head and (2) Drop low average opposition

Total score of best 3 tournaments out of 5 in the same section
1st – 50%
2nd – 30%
3rd – 10%
Either scored more than 10 or participated all 5 – 10%
1 prize per player
A player has to participate in at least 3 tournaments to be eligible for the Grand Prix Scholarship.
Based on the number of participants in that section/combined section.
$5 of each entry will contribute to the Grand Prix.
Arrange scholarship claim with Seneca Hill Chess before December 9, 2017.

 Entry fee and registration:

$30 Register online by Thursday before the tournament Must check in and pay entry fee  between 12:15 and 12:45
$40 Register onsite (if spots available) From 12:15 to 12:30

Late comers may enter the tournament from round 2 with 0 point.
