This year, Qiyu had played/will play in four major international tournaments: NAYCC in Tarrytown, New York; Olympiad in Tromso, Norway; WYCC in Durban, South Africa and 2014 U-16 Olympiad in Gyor, Hungary, on December 12-22.

My name is Qiyu Zhou (born in 2000), a 14-year-old school girl from Ottawa. My passion in chess was demonstrated at a very young age. All my past achievements show that I am currently one of the strongest chess players within my age category in the world, and will be one of the strongest female chess players in the world. I started chess in France and Finland. When I was only 4 years old, I won the 4th place in the French U8 Girls’ Youth Chess Championship. After moving from France to Finland, at the age of 5 I won the 2005 Finnish U10 Open Youth Chess Championship, ahead of boys nearly twice my age.
