Canadian Youth Chess Championship, North York qualifiers  <–click for details

March 31 – U14, U16, U18 (Full)

April 7 – U8, U10, U12 (Full. Expect some no show, will take 2 more)

Due to the overwhelming pre-registration in the  above qualifiers, the weekly tournaments on March 31 and April 7  are cancelled.

Ontario Chess Challenge – North York Regional Qualifiers 2013 (Formerly called Seneca Hill Regional)

Open to any K to G.12 students in Ontario

  • March 3 – grades 6 to 12
  • March 10 – grades 4 to 5
  • March 17 – grades 1 to 3
Sections are divided by grades. Sections may be combined, but prizes are given per grade.
Place: Oriole Community Centre, Map
Ratings: Games are rated by the Chess’N Math Association.
Entry fee: $15. (or one Sunday tournament ticket for Oriole players.)
Prizes: Medals for the top 1 to 3 player(s) in each grade (1 medal out of 4 players), ribbons for all participants.
Top player of each  grade will get partial sponsorship to the Ontario Chess Challenge 2013. (Amount determined by the number of participants in the grade. Details will be posted)
Players qualified by rating or other qualifiers can still play in this tournament. These players will not occupy any qualified spots, but are eligible to win the sponsorship.
Registration: Pre-registration only. Spaces are limited, first come first served.
Please use the webform below.  A confirmation will be sent through email.
Schedule: Players must check in and pay the entry fee between 12:45 and 1:00 on the tournament day.
Tournament starts at 1:15. Time control: 25 minutes per player.
Rounds: 5, Next rounds start 5 minutes after the end of the previous round.

Many of our friends,  OGCC guests and players are playing in the international tournaments in November.

One of our sponsorship recipients, Aman Hambleton is playing at the World Junior Chess Championship 2012 in Athens now (August 4 to 11).

Updated August 15: Congrats to Aman who won an IM norm in the WJCC!
Updated October 20: Congrats to Aman again for winning his second IM norm in the SPICE Cup 2012!
Update November 25, 2012. Congrats to Aman. He did incredibly well in the UNAM tournament: undefeated, 4.5 out to 6 against Grandmasters, earned his IM title and first GM norm! Aman came third. All other top ten are Grandmasters!

Seneca Hill Chess Club is running a series of fundraising activities to sponsor Natalia Khoudgarian WIM, Jackie Peng WCM and Yelizaveta Orlova WCM to 40th World Chess Olympiad in Istanbul, Turkey; and Aman Hambleton FM to World Junior Chess Championship in Athens, Greece.
One of the activities is the Siblings and Friends Tournament at the OGCC 2012.
Open to all Kindergarten to G.12 students.

Entry fee: $12 per player pay on site.
Refreshment: Snacks and drinks are provided.

Many of our students and club members did very well in the Ontario Chess Challenge on April 22.

As we announced before, we will sponsor $100 to our student, Benjamin Lin who made it to the Canadian Chess Challenge 2012 in Halifax, Nova Scotia. We will also continue to sponsor him to play at Hillcrest weekly.
